John Anderson Oboe
John
Anderson took up the oboe while at school in south Wales. He studies with Derek
Wickens and at the Royal college of music in London, with Terence MacDonagh. By
the age of twenty he hasd taken up his first orchestral post with the Suisse
Romande Orchestra in Geneva. A career in major symphony orchestras spanning over
twenty five years including the BBC Symphony, the Philharmonia and the Royal
Rhilharmonic Orchestras has followed and John Anderson currently combines his
work as principal oboe of the English Chamber and Royal Philharmonis Orchestras
with a professorship at the Royal College of Music. He has been a regular guest
with all the major London orchestras and has taught and given master-classes at
all the music colleges in the UK as well as in Japan, China and Canada. He is
also a busy freelancer player both as a solo artist and as a studio player
recording music for film and television.
John
Anderson’s current discography includes versions of the Strauss concerto with
the BBC symphony and Philharmonia orchestras, the Mozart concerto with the ECO,
and recital albums with piano and guitar.
