Jeremy Backhouse

Jeremy Backhouse joined Vasari Singers in 1980 and has been their only conductor for twenty years. Over that time, Jeremy has established himself as one of Britain’s leading conductors of amateur choirs, and at present he is in charge of the Wooburn Singers (following Richard Hickox and Stephen Jackson) and is Chorus Director and Conductor of the Guildford Philharmonic Choir, in addition to having worked with the Brighton Festival Chorus, the London Choral Society, the BBC Singers and the Philharmonia Chorus. Music has been a part of Jeremy’s life since he was a boy, when he was Head Chorister at Canterbury Cathedral.  After a music degree at Liverpool University, he worked first of all at the RNIB as a music editor and then moved to EMI Classics for whom he worked for many years as a consultant editor.
