Cambridge University Brass Ensemble
Cambridge University Brass Ensemble was founded in 1984 by tuba player
Christopher Lawrence and has continued flourish ever since. The ensemble is a standard
brass quintet, although the name implies grander forces which have indeed been gathered
from the talented brass players in the university at times. However, it is as a quintet
that CUBE is best known, performing its wide and varied repertoire regularly in lunchtime
and evening concerts, in schools promoting brass, on University occasions such as the
Honorary Degree Ceremony, for May balls and parties. Noteworthy moments in its history
include performing Lutoslawski's Fanfare for CUBE in the presence of the composer and
touring France with Queens' Chapel Choir with whom they continue their special
relationship.
