Canzonetta
In recent years CANZONETTA has established itself
as one of the UKs most versatile chamber choirs. Since winning the 1993
Sainsburys Choir of the Year title (televised by the BBC), the group has appeared in
many different formats - at international festivals including Cheltenham and Harrogate
(twice); for numerous music clubs and societies across the north of England, and in its
frequent performances of Baroque masterpieces with the Manchester Camerata.
In 1997 the group toured Israel with a programme of Tavener and Michael Nyman. Five
performances of the Bach B Minor Mass were given in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv with the Israel
Chamber Orchestra, under Nicholas Kraemer. In addition to its Cheltenham International
Festival premiere, Thea Musgraves commissioned "On the Underground"
settings have been given several performances, including three in London. Recent
performances include Messiah and Dixit Dominus (Kraemer), Mozart Requiem and Rossini
Stabat Mater (Fujioka), Ives 4th Symphony (Nagano/Halle), and a Vierne/Dupre programme
with Wayne Marshall - all in Manchesters magnificent new Bridgewater Hall.
