creyforh.jpg (11380 Byte)Following studies at Cambridge, the Royal College of Music, and with Nadia Boulanger in Paris, Helen embarked on a versatile career as both trumpeter and pianist in chamber orchestras and ensembles. During this time, she was also in demand as a coach with the major European opera companies, including the Royal Opera House, ENO, Glyndebourne and Garsington.
In 1986, Helen launched a one-woman show RAGS TO RICHES, which explores the history of Ragtime and Jazz. It has met with great critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic, and has been heard frequently on BBC Radio.

Since being appointed principal keyboard player of the Britten Sinfonia in 1995, Helen has also appeared with them as soloist in such works as Britten¹s ŒYoung Apollo¹, Gershwin¹s ŒI Got Rhythm¹ Variations and the Stravinsky Concerto for Piano and Wind. In 1999 she made her BBC Proms debut with the Britten Sinfonia soloists in Poulenc¹s Sextet for Piano and Wind. Future plans included performances of the Crayford Duo (with violinist sister, Marcia), tours of the U.K. with Beverley Davison in the DAZZLING DIGITS show, and residencies in Illinois and Georgia, U.S.A. playing RAGS TO RICHES and duo recitals with flautist Nancy Ruffer
