Steve Davislim - Tenor
 The Australian Tenor began musical life as
a Horn player and subsequently studied voice at the Victorian College of the Arts with
Dame Joan Hammond. He has also studied with John Modenos, Gösta Windberg, Antonio
Morett-Pananti, Neil Schicoff, Luigi Alva, Ileana Cotrubas, attended Irwin Gage's Lieder
class and the International Opera Studio in Zurich. In Australia he was awarded twice the
Queen Elizabeth II Silver Juilee Award and an Australia Council Overseas Study Grant and
represented Australia in the "1997 Cardiff singer of the world competition".
Since 1994/5 Steve Davislim has been a member of the ensemble of the Zurich Opera where he
sang the roles "Almaviva" (The Barber of Seville), "Paolino" (Il
Matrimonio Segreto), "The Steersman" (The Flying Dutchman),
"Gonsalvo" (L'Heure Espagnole), "Camille" (The Merry Widow),
"Achilles" (La Belle Helene), "Tamino" (The Magic Flute),
"Ferrando" (Cosi Fan Tutte) and "Don Ottavio" (Don Giovanni).
As a guest the artist has performed "Almaviva" (The Barber of Seville) at
the Hamburg Opera and Berliner Staatsoper, took part in the Salzburg Festival Marriage
of Figaro (Harnoncourt) and Fidelio (Solti), "Don Ottavio" (Don
Giovanni) in Athens, Fenton (Falstaff) in Ferrara under Claudio Abbado. He has
also sung "Tamino" Ludwigsburg Festival and "Belmonte" at the Mozart
Festival Schönbrunn Vienna. His London Opera Debut will be in the role of Fenton (Falstaff)
at The Royal Opera House Covent Garden 2001.
As a concert singer he has worked under conductors such as Riccardo Chailly, Franz
Welser-Möst, Rene Jacobs, Philippe Herreweghe, Nello Santi and has performed with (among
others) the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the BBC Symphony (Missa Solemnis/Roger Norrington),
the Chicago Symphony (Matthew Passion/Peter Schreier), San Francisco Symphony, Orchestra
de la Suisse Romande, Orchestre Chamber de Lausanne, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the
Royal Danish Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra and the Wiener Symphoniker.
