Carleton Etherington - Organ Carleton Etherington was educated at
Chetham's School of Music, Manchester and the Royal Academy of Music, London, where he
studied with Peter Hurford and David Sanger. He graduated from London University with an
honours degree in music and won numerous prizes for organ performance, culminating in the
Recital Diploma. Whilst a student, he held the organ scholarship at St Bride's Church,
Fleet Street, and in 1991, was appointed sub organist at Leeds Parish Church. In 1996 he
moved to his present position as organist of Tewkesbury Abbey.
First prizewinner at the 1992 Paisley International Organ Festival Competition and, the following year, winner of the the prestigious Royal College of Organists' "Performer of the Year" competition, held in London, he has travelled widely as a recitalist, performing at most of the major British venues and further afield in France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Ireland, Australia and the USA. He has made several recordings, both as soloist and accompanist, and has broadcast on BBC radio and television. In addition to his duties at the Abbey, Carleton is conductor of the Bromsgrove Choral Society and, since 1998, has accompanied the Junior section of the CBSYC. He has performed with the CBSO on a number of occasions and in 2000 was invited to accompany the CBSYC on their world tour to Sydney.
