Howard Griffiths - Conductor

He first studied at the Royal College of Music in London with George Hurst, later with Erich Schmid in Zurich and with Leon Brazin in Paris. He has performed as guest conductor with many important orchestras in England, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Poland, South Africa, Spain and the USA, as well as in Turkey and Switzerland. The orchestras include the Warsaw Philharmonic, the Basle Symphony Orchestra, the London Mozart Players, the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Polish Chamber Orchestra. He made his debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 1991 in the London Royal Festival Hall. Howard Griffiths works regularly with the English Chamber Orchestra, first performing with them in 1993 in the Barbican Hall, and has made numerous CD recordings and toured with the Northern Sinfonia. Most recently he has led concerts with the Orquesta Nacional d'Espaņa, with the Oxford Orchestra da Camera and with the Collegium Novum, Zurich. Howard Griffiths has recorded more than 30 CDs, especially encouraging Swiss composers. Howard Griffiths, who has lived in Switzerland since 1981, has a long-standing partnership with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra. From the 1996/97 season op-he is the artistic director of this orchestra.
