Debra Morley - Soprano
Debra studied at Cardiff University, the Royal
Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, with Heather Harper, and with Erich Fiala of the Bonn
Opera in Germany, during which time she was awarded the Geraint Evans Prize, the David
Evans Prize, the Hubert Hall Memorial Award and the North of England Tournament Trust. She
currently studies with Marilyn Hill Smith, and has recently won an Award from the Madeline
Finden Memorial Competition at St. John's, Smith Square.
Debra has sung Lucia in "Lucia di Lammermoor" on tour with Opera Della
Luna and has appeared as a soloist on BBC Radio 3. She has worked with many companies,
including London Opera Players, Crystal Clear Opera, Opera Omnibus, Opera Interludes and
Nonsuch Opera. Her roles have included the Queen of Night (Die Zauberflöte),
Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Mme Herz (Der Schauspieldirektor), Blonde (Die
Entführung aus dem Serail), Adina (L'elisir d'amore), Gilda (Rigoletto),
Nanetta (Falstaff), Leila (Les pêcheurs des perles), Micaela (Carmen),
Norina (Don Pasquale) Adele (Die Fledermaus) and Amina (La Sonnambula).
Debra appears frequently in recitals, concerts and oratorios, recently at the Purcell
Room, on London's South Bank, as soprano soloist in "The Age of Bel Canto"
and "Dear WoIfgang Amadeus". Oratorio performances have included Haydn's "The
Seasons", "The Creation" and "Harmoniemesse",
Handel's "Messiah" and "Samson", Verdi's Requiem Mass
and Tippett's "A Child of Our Time".
