Fali Pavri - Piano

Fali Pavri enjoys a busy and diverse career as soloist, chamber musician, teacher and adjudicator. Born in Mumbai, India, he studied the piano at the Moscow Conservatoire with Professor Victor Merzhanov and at the Royal Academy of Music, London with Christopher Elton.

While still a student, he was invited by the great Russian cellist, Mstislav Rostropovitch to be his pianist on an extensive concert tour of India. This was followed by his London debut at the Purcell Room and concerts in prestigious venues around the world.

He has performed and collaborated with many eminent musicians including the Vellinger and Vertavo quartets, the Leopold Trio, Paragon Ensemble,  Scottish Ensemble, clarinetist Andrew Marriner, baritone Roderick Williams and composer Mauricio Kagel.

Recent concert highlights have included concertos at the St. Endellion Festival with Richard Hickox and at the Scottish Proms with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, a Wigmore Hall concert with cellist Wolfgang Schmidt, a tour of Ireland with Scottish cellist, Robert Irvine, a S. African tour with Naomi Boole-Masterson and performances at the Sangat Music Festival in India and the Langvad Festival in Denmark. At the 2006 Cheltenham Festival he gave the world premiere of a cello sonata by Giles Swayne with Robert Irvine followed by a recording of the complete cello/piano works of Swayne for the Delphian label. In June this year Fali will give the world premier of «In Memoriam», a new piece for Piano and Percussion by the Serbian-American composer Vera Stanojevic which will be broadcast on BBC Radio Scotland.

He has recorded two critically acclaimed discs with the cellist Timothy Gill on the Guild label, including the world premieres of two works by the Indian composer, John Mayer. This year he will record two more discs for Guild including the music of the Swiss composer Volkmar Andreae and songs by Antony Bolton. Radio broadcasts include a recording with Rostropovich for All India Radio, the North-American premiere of “La Trahison Orale” by Mauricio Kagel for CBC and regular appearances on BBC Radio 3.

Fali Pavri is on the Piano Faculty at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where his class includes many distinguished and international prize-winning pianists.

He has given masterclasses in many countries and has adjudicated at prestigious competitions and Music Festivals including the Unisa International Piano Competition in South Africa and the Feis Ceoil in Ireland.
