Edward Rushton - Piano
Edward Rushton studied piano (with Renna Kellaway)
and composition at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester, before going on to read Music
at King's College, Cambridge. While at King's, he was active as a chamber-music pianist,
and took piano lessons from John York. After graduation in 1994 he took the MMus in
composition with distinction from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and became
increasingly active as an accompanist, going on to hold the post of Broadwood Junior
Fellow in Accompaniment at the RSAMD. Since 1998 he has been based in Switzerland as a
freelance composer and pianist. With his chamber-opera Leinen aus Smyrna, he recently won
the teatro minimo competition at the Opernhaus Zürich and the Bavarian State Opera; the
resulting commission for a full-length opera for Zurich will be premiered in 2003. In 2001
he graduated with distinction from Irwin Gage's masterclass in Lied interpretation at the
Zurich Konservatorium.
