The St. Louis Chamber Chorus

Founded in 1956 by a recent emigrant from England, Ronald Arnatt, the choir soon rose to prominence in the Midwest, giving first American performances of numerous works by Britten, Delius and Stravinsky. It has always held a prestige position in local music-making, and under Philip Barnes's direction this reputation has only been enhanced, particularly since specialising in the repertoire for unaccompanied choir.  Each season the choir performs over fifty complete works, always in their original language, and in appropriate settings throughout the greater St. Louis area. In recent years the choir has cultivated close ties with several leading choral composers, who have written for the Chamber Chorus, including Richard Rodney Bennett, Judith Bingham, Clare Maclean, David Matthews, and Sasha Johnson Manning. This is the choir's seventh disc; details of its earlier releases, together with more information about concerts and repertoire, may be found on its website, www.chamberchorus.org.
