Kathron Sturrock - Piano

sturrock.jpg (9272 Byte)Kathron Sturrock, the notable British pianist, studied at the Royal College of Music and then won an Austrian Government scholarship to study with Alfred Brendel in Vienna. Further awards from the Martin Musical Scholarship Fund and the Countess of Munster enabled her to accept an invitation from Rostropovitch to study the repertoire for cello and piano with him in Moscow.

Her concerts, recordings and television appearances have taken her to most countries in Europe, and to North America, India and Australia. She also performs regularly in the London concert halls, and records frequently for BBC Radio 3.

Kathron Sturrock's interests are varied and wide-ranging. Along with her solo career she is in much demand as an ensemble pianist. She is a founder member of the chamber music group 'The Fibonacci Sequence', whose CDs of music by Poulenc and Alan Rawsthorne have just been issued, and has recorded for Hyperion, Chandos, Pickwick, Sain, Gamut, ASV and Virtuosi Records.

She is the only pianist to have twice won the prize for the best accompanist at the Sofia International Opera Competition where she accompanied, amongst others, the soprano Rosalind Plowright. After this award she was invited to play for Elisabeth Schwarzkopf's master classes throughout Europe.

She made her Proms debut in August 1994, and has recently recorded Mozart's concerto K503 with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jerzy Maksymiuk.
