David Thorne - Organist

David Thorne won a scholarship to the Royal School of Church Music, going on to read music at Bristol University. He was the Assistant Organist at Portsmouth Cathedral from 1978 until 1999, and was Director of Music for many years at the City of Portsmouth Boys’ School.

 In 2000 he was appointed Director of Music at St John’s Catholic Cathedral in Portsmouth. He broadcasts regularly on the BBC programmes The Daily Service and Sunday Half Hour with the Chamber Choir of Portsmouth Grammar School, where he is a member of staff. His Rite A setting of The Mass of St Thomas has become one of the best known of the genre.
