tingayg.jpg (11690 Byte)Gillian Tingay gives solo, duo and chamber recitals and has a busy concerto schedule of classical and modern works. Recent engagements have included concertos with The Budapest String Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. John’s Smith Square, the Northern Sinfonia, the Bournemouth Sinonietta and the BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra.

With Marisa Robles she opened the World Harp Festival in 1991, and in the 1194 Festival gave the premiere of Malecki’s double harp concerto, and also performed JM Damase’s Concertino, in the presence of both composers. In 1994 she performed the Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto with James Galway at the Hampton Court Palace Festival.

Gillian broadcasts regularly on Radio 3, Classic FM and on television. Her busy recital schedule has included concerts with such groups as Jeux, Lontano, Endymion, the Debussy Trio, the Fibonacci Sequence and the Chamber Music Players of London. She has appeared in Festivals such as the City of London, Ryedale, Cricklade, Salisbury, the Three Choirs, Lichfield, and King’s Lynn. In 1994 she gave a recital at the first Arts Festival held in Beirut for twenty years.

Gillian was awarded a scholarship to study with Marisa Robles at The Royal College of Music when she was 15, and was a finalist in the first BBC Young Musician of the Year competition.

Gillian’s numerous CD recordings include the flute and harp works of JM Damase with her duo partner Anna Noakes, which was Critic’s Choice in Gramophone Magazine, and a ‘Fantasie Album’ for works for flute and harp on the ASV label. Following the success of this CD Gillian and Anna have been invited to make a recording of British Flute and Harp Music early next year.

A flute and harp concerto by Dave Heath is to be specially written for Anna and Gillian next year, and a series of performances of this new work will follow throughout the year 2000/2001.
