Marília Vargas, soprano – Emmeline
Born
in Curitiba (Brazil) in 1977, Marília Vargas started her vocal education with
Neyde Thomas. Soloist diploma at the Schola Cantorum in Basle with Ulrich
Messthaler. Advanced studies with Christoph Prégardien at the College for Music
and Theatre in Zurich. Master classes among others with Montserrat Figueras and
Silvana Bazzoni-Bartoli. In 2001 she received the 2nd prize at the International
Singing Competition Bidù Sayào (Belém, Brazil), and she was awarded the prize
for the artistic ”talent of the year” by the government of the Brazilian federal
state of Paraná. In 2003 she received the 3rd prize in the Maria Callas National
Competition (Sao Paulo, Brazil), and in 2004 the 2nd prize of the Marguerite
Meister Foundation Zurich. She performed with the Aargau Symphonic Orchestra,
the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, as well as the Orchestra of the Age of
Enlightenment. She gave concerts in Japan, Brazil, Austria, France and Germany.
Among her opera roles there are Mozart’s Bastienne and Susanna in Figaro,
Almidoro in La Cecchina by Piccinni, Alceste in Arianna in Creta
by Händel. Marília Vargas works with various ensembles for Ancient Music, among
others Les Flamboyants and Turicum. Since 2000 she has been singing with La
Capelle Reial de Catalunya under Savall.
