James Weeks

Born in Blackburn in 1978, James Weeks was a chorister in the Choir of Christ Church Cathedral Oxford from 1986-91, subsequently held scholarships at Winchester College, and from 1997-2000 was Organ Scholar of Queens’ College, Cambridge, graduating with a double-starred first class honours degree in Music in June 2000.

His activities as composer and conductor are extensive and varied. He has studied composition with Michael Finnissy, and his music has recently been heard at festivals in Britain and on the Continent. In October 2000 he began post-graduate studies in composition at Southampton University.

Much of James Weeks’ conducting work has been concentrated on Queens’ College Choir, for whom he directed three CDs as well as numerous concerts and their 1999 tour to Germany and Switzerland. From 1998-2000 he was Assistant Conductor of the Cambridge University Musical Society, whom he led on tour to the Czech Republic in 1999. He has also founded and directed the New Josquin Ensemble, specialising in performances of music of the early Renaissance, and in July 2000 was invited to direct the newly-formed Imago Vokalensemble on their acclaimed debut tour of Bavaria.
