Stephen Wells - Bass
After
completing a music degree in New Zealand Stephen Wells commenced a period of
study at the Royal Northern College of Music, England. Whilst in New Zealand
Stephen gained a great deal of experience in both choral singing and early music
through his association with the National Youth Choir, the Tudor Consort,
Baroque Voices and Voices New Zealand. This has led to recordings of works by
Purcell, (for the Tudor Consort) and several CDs (including music by Gibbons and
Duruflé) for Manchester Cathedral Choir. He currently lives and works in
England, singing as an oratorio soloist in a wide range of music, as a lay clerk
(at Manchester Cathedral), and broadcasting and recording for the BBC Daily
Service radio programme.
Stephen has worked with Opera North, The Hallé Orchestra under Mark Elder and
has toured with Scottish Ballet. He is also establishing a reputation as a
versatile operatic performer, having recently undertaken principal roles for Bel
Canto Opera, Bolton Opera, Lakeland Opera, Guildford Opera and
British Youth Opera
