Patricia Wright - Soprano
Her recent concert performances with the NZSO and the Auckland Philharmonia have included Carmina Burana, Rachmaninov Vocalise, Messiah, The Four Last Songs, Beethoven 9th, Child of our Time, Verdi Requiem, Pulcinella and Mahler 4th. Her recent Lieder and Art Song recitals range from Wolfs Italienisches Liederbuch, to Clara Schumann Songs, Arnold Bax Songs and Arthur Bliss Songs. Her performances are the most consistently broadcast in New Zealand. Patricia Wright achieved acclaim as a singer in her late-teens studying under the legendary Dame Sr. Mary Leo in Auckland before becoming Dame Joan Hammonds first pupil at the Victoria College of Arts in Melbourne. Upon winning the then largest Australian scholarship she went to the UK and Europe for further study. For the BBC Radio 3 she recorded works by Prokofiev, Menotti, Marx, Kabalevsky, Brahms, Poulenc, Auric, Dring, Weir, Bliss, Bridge and Bax. She performed opera in Britain, Belfast and Wexford. Highlight concert performances in Britain include a BBC broadcast with the English Chamber Orchestra, the guest soloist at the last night of the Llangollen Eisteddfod, a BBC live broadcast of Frank Bridge songs with the New London Orchestra from St Johns Smith Square and a soloist in Serenade to Music at the Last Night of the Proms. She represented New Zealand in the 1989 Cardiff Singer of the World.
