ADD Total Time = 66.38 - Recorded in Guildford Cathedral: Tracks 1-4,6&9-12 in 1971
& 5,7&8 in 1967 This recording is new to Compact Disc and features the Choir of Guildford Cathedral in one of its most musical and best-remembered periods. The works performed on this disc seems to compliment the architectural atmosphere of the Cathedral itself, particularly as the building is very much a 20th Century creation. Being completed in 1961, it is the first Anglican Cathedral to be constructed on a new site in the South of England since the reformation. The music is multi-faceted - from the tranquil opening of Bernard Naylors eponymous first piece through to moments of great jubilation in his Father - Edwards Vox Dicentis and William Mathiass Festival Te Deum. Alan Ridout provides two sets of Sacred Songs for Treble voices and organ which are the emotional heart of this recording and give the boys a chance to show the high-level of skill and sensitivity they achieved under the expert tutelage of Barry Rose.
