DDD Total Time = 55.53 The Organ was extensively rebuilt in about 1980 by N P Mander Ltd The Choir of the great Cathedral of Canterbury is heir to a great tradition of music making, stretching back beyond St. Thomas à Becket to St. Augustine, who began his mission to convert the English to Christianity here. Augustine himself was appointed the first Archbishop of Canterbury in AD 601. This remarkable tradition is well demonstrated in these spirited performances of a wide range of English music, extending through five centuries. Some of the best known, as well as some lesser known English composers are featured on this recording, made in the fine acoustic of the Cathedral.
