This is the first album to be wholly devoted to the music of Philip Moore, one of the leading English composers of Cathedral Choral and Organ Music of his generation.

Philip Moore was born in 1943 in London, and has had a very distinguished career in Cathedral Music for many years, at Eton College, Canterbury Cathedral, Guildford Cathedral and now at York Minster, where his contributions to the traditions of great Cathedral music have been particularly admired.

He enjoys a distinguished reputation as a composer of some of the finest music of its type to have been written in England for many years, a reputation which is well demonstrated in this magnificent CD. This contains his brilliant Organ Sonata, outstandingly well played by the young virtuoso Jeremy Filsell, and other of Moore’s notable organ works, including the intriguing Five Sketches and two powerful pieces Prelude and Fugue.

In addition, this superbly recorded new album includes several of Moore’s finest Choral works, in particular the moving Three Prayers of Dietrich Bonhoeffer - which, like all the music on this very welcome CD, is receiving its first recording.
This album is a major contribution to the growing catalogue of great English Cathedral Music.
