Picture: Water-colour of the view from Felix Aprahamian's house looking towards
Alexandra Palace in North London. Almost all the music on this CD was composed in this
house and David Liddle was resident organist of Alexandra Palace for a time. The artist is
David Liddle's mother.
The Organ was designed and built by N P Mander Ltd. of London England and is the
largest mechanical action organ in New York City. The installation began in November 1992
and was completed in 1993.
The brilliant blind English organist and composer David Liddle is arguably the leading
organist-composer of his generation in the world.
On the magnificent Instrument of St. Ignatius Loyola, on Park Avenue, New York City, which
originally dates from 1895, David gives compelling and naturally authentic performances of
his own original yet traditionally-based organ music.
This representative selection ranges from the dazzling Toccata opus 3 to
the succinct English Organ Mass opus 6 and the Symphonic Labyrinth - on
the finest large-scale organ works by a British composer written since the War.
In addition to being a very gifted and original composer, DAVID LIDDLE is also a virtuoso
organist of immense skill, and this wonderfully-recorded new CD is guaranteed to make a
big impact.
