John Caldwell
 Professor John
Caldwell studied Music at Oxford and taught at
Bristol University for three years before returning to Oxford in 1967. His main academic
interests are in chant and medieval music, and he has published The
Oxford History of English Music. As an undergraduate and for
several years thereafter, he wrote many chamber and choral pieces. With the composition of
Good Friday he has renewed a long-held
love of composition. He has subsequently written a Divertimento for the Oxford Chamber
Orchestra (performed in November 1999). Future plans include more opera, with a possible
sequel to Good Friday.
