Jeanne Demessieux (1921 - 1968)
Jeanne Demessieux, who was born in Montpelier in 1921 and died in Paris aged 47, was
one of the great organists of her day, the possessor of both an enviable virtuoso
technique and a genius for improvisation. She was a pupil of Dupré's who composed, but
wrote little; amongst her few published works is the Poème for organ and orchestra,
written when she was 28.
