Sir John GossJohn Goss was a chorister at the Chapel Royal and his first connection with St. Paul's was when he began studying composition with Thomas Attwood, who was then organist of the Cathedral. On Attwood's death in 1838, Goss was appointed organist and he wrote many of his anthems and hymn-tunes for special services in the Cathedral. The two psalm chants recorded on GMCD 7118 are typical of his melodic flair and his care when writing for voices, for Goss was a trained singer and thus aware of his vocalist's needs. His chants are still in regular use in many Cathedral and Parish Churches. Sir John Goss on Guild Music
