Francis Jackson

Francis Jackson studied under Bairstow at York and succeeded him there in 1946.

Like Bairstow, he has had a considerable influence on the musical life of Yorkshire. His reputation has been more as a player than a composer, but he has written a considerable amount of church music.

Most composers avoid the repetitious text of the Benedicite (O.U.P.), which Jackson here negotiates with skill. His setting is dedicated to E. M. Milner-White.
