Tertius Noble

Tertius Noble became organist at All Saints, Colchester, in 1881 then studied at the Royal College of Music with, amongst others, Stanford.

He became Stanford's assistant at Trinity College, Cambridge in 1890 and moved to Ely in 1892. He was at York Minster from 1898-1912 then took charge of the music at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church in New York. There was a fine organ there and Noble established a choir school to enable music to be performed according to the English tradition.

He wrote a wide range of music, but only his services and anthems are still performed. His service in A minor, Op.17, (Banks) was written while he was at York and is dedicated To the Choristers and Songmen of York Minster.
