S S Wesley

Samuel Sebastian Wesley was an exceptionally talented musician. Although many of his anthems and services are sung regularly there are several which are rarely, if ever, performed. This disc includes anthems that have been recorded for the first time. To my request and earnest cry is an exceptionally fine work on a grand scale and is one of the most powerful pieces of the period. The disc also includes the first recordings of O God, whose nature and property, Trust ye in the Lord and a brief Andante for organ. Let us lift up our heart and Praise the Lord have also been included. This recording is designed to complement a new and detailed study of Wesley’s life and music by Peter Horton which is to be published by Oxford University Press.
