This outstanding collection of extremely rare performances conducted by Sir John Barbirolli with the New York Philharmonic, of which orchestra he was chief conductor from 1936-1943, will be welcomed by collectors of great conducting all over the world. It includes several works which Barbirolli never recorded commercially, and demonstrates - as clearly as can be – the high international standard that this great orchestra maintained during those years under the young Englishman’s direction.
In this wide-ranging conspectus, we have music from the 18th to the 20th centuries, from France, Austria, Germany, Italy and Britain, including music that is not otherwise currently available commercially from any source. Here is a fabulous collection indeed, in very good sound from the period.
