Biography of Rigby Jean:
The English mezzo-soprano Jean Rigby, born in 1955, studied in Birmingham and later at the Royal Academy of Music in London. After one year’s studies at the National Opera Studio she became a member of English National Opera. In 1983 she made her debut at Covent Garden; moreover she is a guest performer at the Scottish Opera and the Nederlandse Opera, and is a regular guest of the Glyndebourne Festival where she, in 2008, participated in the premiere performance of Peter Eötvös’ opera Love and Other Demons. Jean Rigby has also worldwide reputation as a concert singer and appeared with many famous orchestras and star conductors, such as Giuseppe Sinopoli, Seiji Ozawa, Richard Hickox, Leonard Slatkin, Trevor Pinnock, Sir Charles Mackerras, Bernard Haitink and Sir Roger Norrington.
