This is one of the more important historical CDs issued of the great German-born conductor Fritz Busch in that it brings together for the first time a collection of very rare broadcast performances under his baton is very good, mainly post-war, sound. Collectors will be particularly attracted to the fact that Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony is included on this disc and indeed concludes a programme which also has the exceptionally rare performance of Brahms’s Alto Rhapsody with the legendary black American contralto Marian Anderson as soloist, and Chopin’s E minor Piano Concerto in which the distinguished soloist is Claudio Arrau. Truly, a CD for collectors of very great performances!
