Bruch Max (1838-1920)

Biography of Bruch Max:

Max Bruch (1838-1920) was the son of a singer and a police official from Cologne. It was his singing mother who gave him his first music lessons, then at the age of 14 he won the Prize of the Frankfurt Mozart Foundation and was thereafter able to study with Ferdinand Hiller and Carl Reinecke. Both these teachers had been close to Mendelssohn and Schumann, and it was their common aesthetic that would prove decisive for Bruch himself.
