Demersseman Jules (1799-1862)

Biography of Demersseman Jules:

The French composer and flutist Jules Demersseman (1833-1866) was another of the composer instrumentalists of this period who made his base in Paris, although he also travelled widely in his short life. He composed a number of substantial works for the flute, including a number of concertos with orchestra, of which the Sixth, the Concerto Italien Opus 82, is the best known. His early death deprived the world of a great talent. His Fantaisie brillante sur des motivs de «la Juive» is based of course on the highly successful opera, first produced in 1843 by Jacques-François-Fromental-Elie Halévy (1799-1862).
