Biography of Werner Martin:

Martin Werner was born in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, in 1991. As well as pursuing his musical training, he attended state schools. At present, the 15-year-old talented young pianist is being taught at the Kunst- und Sportgymnasium Rämibühl (an art and sports college) in Zurich. Martin had already shown a pronounced interest in classical music since his earliest childhood days, especially in the piano. Thus, he had his first piano lesson on a private basis at the age of five. In 1998, at the advice of several music educator, he changed to the Musikschule and Konservatorium Schaffhausen MKS (a music school and academy), where he enjoyed a basic training in music. Already at the age of seven, following initial concert performances, he was given his first award, the Förderpreis, presented by the Musikschule and Konservatorium Schaffhausen. At the age of nine, he joined the Musikschule and Konservatorium Winterthur, and in 2003 began his preliminary music studies in the piano class of Tamriko Korzaia, Junichi Onaka as well as Prof. Karl-Andreas Kolly. In addition to the piano training, the young pianist is receiving intensive support in music theory from Felix Profos and Heinz Höpli. His performances have earned him several national and international awards. Among other things, he won first prizes during the Swiss Jugendmusikwettbewerbe (youth music competitions) in 2003 and 2005, when he also received the Prix Suisse, the special prize for the best interpretation of the work by a Swiss composer. In 2002 Martin Werner won a Förderpreis from the Musikschule and Konservatorium Winterthur, as well as a first prize at the Hans Ninck music competition in Winterthur. In 2003 he played Haydn’s piano concerto in D major with the Jugend-Sinfonie-Orchestra Winterthur under the baton of Christoph Rehli, and impressed his audience with a cadenza he had written himself. In 2001, 2004, and 2005 he was awarded diplomas in piano and musical theory from the Royal School of Music in London. The young pianist has received excellent reviews for his solo recitals and concerts with orchestra. It has always been especially pointed out that he succeeds in convincing and firing his audience not only with his brilliant technique but also with his mature musical interpretations. “I have been given a wonderful talent and I would like to use it to bring joy to as many people as possible.” Martin Werner
