Biography of Wordsworth Barry:
Barry Wordsworth is the Principal Conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra as well as a frequent guest conductor with many of the major British Orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Halle Orchestra and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. In 1998 he made his fist televised appearance on the BBC Proms and has continued to conduct during every Prom season since with both the BBC Concert Orchestra and the New Queens Hall Orchestra. In addition to his busy UK schedule, highlights from recent seasons including engagements with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Canada. This season, he has already made his debut with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the Maastricht Symphony Orchestra, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in Canada, the Belgian National Orchestra and the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne as will revisit the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. Future engagements in the UK include concerts with the Halle, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia. In addition to his symphonic career, Mr. Wordsworth has conducted opera at Covent Garden, including performances of "Don Govan" and "Carmen". He was Music Director of the Royal Ballet until 1995 and regularly conducts key productions with them and the Birmingham Royal Ballet, where he continues as Music Director. Barry Wordsworth has made a large catalogue of recordings and has made commercial releases for all the UK based companies including a long association with Argo/Decca International. His recordings of Vaughan Williams "Job" and Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet" with the Philharmonia of Collins Classics received excellent reviews. Last season he has recorded four CD's as part of an on-going project with the Royal Philharmonic with repertoire including Beethoven's Symphony 7 and Rimsky Korsakov's Sheherazade. Most recently, his recording of the "Last Night of the Proms" for Phillips Classics with the BBC Concert Orchestra was released and has achieved enormous popular success.
