Alexander Suleiman began his musical career as an award winning pianist before falling in love with the cello at age 17. He commenced his studies with Eldar Issakadze and continued under Daniil Shafran and Natalia Gutman. His involvement with Nicolaus Harnoncourt has cultivated a deep devotion to the interpretation of Baroque music. His most recent CD includes cello sonatas by Vivaldi and Boismortier performed on period instruments. He frequently performs as a soloist with various orchestras such as the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, the Caucasian Chamber Music Orchestra, the Novosibirsk Academic Symphony Orchestra, the Sofia Philharmonic, the Georgian Chamber Orchestra, and the World Chamber Orchestra.
Suleiman's commitment to chamber music is longstanding. He is routinely invited to perform in various international music festivals including the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival in Finland, the Oleg-Kagan Music Festival, Germany, the Pacem in Terris Festival in the Republic of Georgia, the Woerthersee Classics Festival, Austria, and others. Following invitations to countries such as North Korea, the Palestinian territories, Lebanon, Georgia, Colombia, Jordan, and Armenia, together with Canadian pianist Patricia Hoy he continuously performs a comprehensive range of repertoire that draws critical acclaim. Recordings include works by outstanding composers such as Franz Hummel, Vaza Azarashvili, Sulchan Nassidze, Erik Sven-Tueuer, Susan Oswell and Uwe Berkemer, many of whom have dedicated their works to him.
