Assad Sérgio (b.1952)

Biography of Assad Sérgio:

Returning to the 20th-century, and to music for solo guitar, we have a fascinating waltz (Valsa) by the contemporary Brazilian master Sérgio Assad, who was born in Mococa, São Paulo, in 1952. His family was musical, and it was not long before Sérgio took to writing guitar music after having first mastered the instrument. He has formed a noted duo with his brother Odair, and we hear in Sérgio’s Valsa that intriguing combination of modern melody and harmony expressed through the more traditional dance form, the whole given almost the character of the saudade.
