Bianco René - Baritone (1908-2008)

Biography of Bianco René:

René Bianco (1908-2008) was a pupil of Julia Cholain and made his debut in Bône (Annaba) in 1934. From 1948 he continued his career, headquartering at the Opéra at Paris, singing a vast repertoire comprising Beethoven (Pizarro), Wagner (Telramund, Flying Dutchman, Wolfram and Wotan), Rossini (Guillaume Tell), Verdi (Amonasro, Iago and Rigoletto), Puccini (Scarpia), Mussorgsky (Rangoni and Varlaam in Boris Godunov) and Strauss (Jochanaan) as well as a huge number of French operatic roles from Rameau to Poulenc; for Decca he recorded the King of Goa in Adam’s Si j’étais roi and Lotario in Thomas’ Mignon. Bianco was also a renowned teacher, amongst others for two years at the Québec Conservatoire.
