Biography of Andreae Marc:

Marc Andreae was born into a family long prominent on the Swiss music scene. He studied in his home town of Zurich, then with Nadia Boulanger in Paris and with Franco Ferrara in Rome and in Siena. In 1966 he won the conducting competition organized by Rudolf Kempe and the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra. Andreae was for many years the principal conductor of the Orchestra della Radio-Televisione della Svizzera Italiana and conducted as a guest with orchestras such as the Bamberg Symphony, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Munich Philharmonic, the radio orchestras of Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne, Leipzig and Hamburg, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Salzburg Camerata, the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the Orchestra dell’Accademia di S. Cecilia in Rome, the RAI Orchestra in Turin, the NHK and Yomiuri Orchestras in Tokyo and all the great Swiss orchestras. Andreae has performed at the festivals of Salzburg, Vienna, Berlin, Paris, Florence, Lucerne, Zurich and elsewhere and has made over 50 recordings, being awarded the Grand Prix du Disque twice. In 1999 he was awarded the UBS Cultural Prize for his extraordinary services as a conductor and in 2009 the Tokyo University of the Arts (the Geidai) made him a visiting professor. Marc Andreae has given the world premières of over 100 works by renowned composers such as Bussotti, Feldmann, Globokar, Holliger, Sciarrino and Vogel.
