Biography of Suter Robert:
Robert Suter was born into a music-loving family in St Gall in 1919. He grew up there, and his musical abilities were recognized and supported early on. Very soon, the piano became to him a partner in dialogue that challenged the schoolboy to experiment, to improvise and to compose. The urge to make music was so elemental that when he was 18 he decided to study piano, composing and music theory at the Basle Conservatory. After his studies, his first teaching position took him to Berne (from 1945 to 1950) and from 1950 to his retirement in 1984 he was a teacher for music theory, improvisation and composition at the Basle Music Academy.
