Edward joined the London Symphony Orchestra as joint principal Viola in 1991. In addition to his LSO commitments, he enjoys a busy career as a soloist and chamber musician, performing with distinguished musicians such as André Previn, Emanuel Ax, Leif Ove Andsnes, Nikolaj Znaider and fellow members of the LSO. As one of the founder members of the World Orchestra for Peace, Edward was invited to play at the World War II 60th remembrance ceremony in Krakow. Tom Service from The Guardian wrote: ‘It was an honour to hear Edward Vanderspar of the World Orchestra for Peace perform a poignant tribute to those who died in the Holocaust. Ed’s performance was the most moving tribute you could imagine: his playing of the simple, sad melody was a fragment of experience that connected us across the generations to the thousands whose voices were silenced. If playing music for peace means anything at all, this was it.’ Edward has given Master Classes at The Royal Academy of Music, The Royal College of Music and Trinity and has been guest Professor at Heidelberg University the Hochschule in Karlsruhe.and the Julliard in New York. He studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the Berne Conservatoire and in 1984 won the W.E.Hill & Son’s Prize at the Tertis International Viola Competition.
