Biography of Miolin Anders:
Anders Miolin was born in Stockholm. Extensive studies from a very young age at the Academies in Copenhagen,
Malmö and Basel, awards from the Swedish Royal Academy of Music and the Danish Sonning Foundation, as well as first
prizes in international competitions in Finland, Italy and Martinique marked the beginning of his career.
Several recordings for BIS on ten-string and eleven-string alto guitars followed – highly acclaimed by the classical
music press – including his own transcriptions of music by Satie, Ravel, Debussy and Granados, as well as a programme of
British guitar music, and the complete solo-guitar music by Villa-Lobos.
In 2003, Anders Miolin and the Swiss luthier Ermanno Chiavi developed the thirteen-string guitar Chiavi-Miolin.
This new instrument arose as a result of a sound vision, to create a medium to combine the possibilities of styles from
renaissance to contemporary music and to enable transcriptions from different instrumental traditions. This amazing guitar
has a span of five octaves and a previously unheard sound palette. Anders Miolin has established himself internationally as
a pioneering and exclusive performer on this unique instrument.
Anders Miolin is also a composer and arranger, and is currently professor of guitar at Zurich University of the Arts.
