Musikkollegium Winterthur - Orchestra

Biography of Musikkollegium Winterthur:

In the past years the Musikkollegium Winterthur has consolidated its reputation as a top class ensemble. Numerous guest appearances in Switzerland and in Germany have made it more widely known. The Musikkollegium Winterthur dates back to an association founded by music-making citizens in 1629. Subsequently, in 1875 the first professional orchestra in Switzerland was established. In the first half of the 20th century the patron Werner Reinhart and the conductor Hermann Scherchen influenced the fate of the orchestra considerably. Since then, conductors and soloists of international reputation have been regular guests in Winterthur. The Scotsman Douglas Boyd is currently its principal conductor.
