Biography of Cantus Firmus Surselva:

Cantus Firmus Surselva is the choir that Clau Scherrer founded with male and female singers from the whole of Grisons in 1999. The most important projects during these years are: “Motets from the Renaissance to the Modern Age”, “A German Requiem, London version, recording of the CD “Sut steilas” (Romance and French songs), “Bach and Brahms Motets”, “Nelson Mass” (Haydn), “Song of Destiny” (Brahms) and Borodin’s “Polovetz Dances”. Although the Cantus Firmus Choir has only been in existence for a few years, it already has established a very good reputation for itself throughout Switzerland. The choir has already given guest performances at: - the Swiss regional exhibition EXPO.02 in Yverdon - the jubilee celebration “200 years of Grisons in the Swiss Confederation” - the Swiss Choir Gala 2003 in the Casino Basel - the Weekend of Choir Music 2005 in Zug In addition, there have been various radio programmes on DRS1, DRS2 and Radio Rumantsch (SRG idée suisse). In the year 2004 the Cantus Firmus Surselva was awarded the prize of the CRR (Cuminanza Radio Rumantsch). The choir has recently been made a member of “Europe Cantat Switzerland”. At present Cantus Firmus is preparing for the following projects: - “Mozart Requiem” (November 2005) “Der Rose Pilgerfahrt” (“The Pilgrimage of the Rose”) by Schumann (Lake Constance Festival 2006)
