Biography of Edwards Catherine:
Catherine Edwards studied the piano with Phyllis Sellick and Vlado Perlemuter and the organ with Ralph Downes and Gillian Weir. She has a varied career on both instruments performing, broadcasting and recording as soloist, chamber pianist and accompanist.
She performs regularly with singers and instrumentalists including Anthony Rolfe-Johnson, Willard White, Moray Welsh and Paul Barritt, and among her many CDs are two prize-winning recordings of Mendelssohn and Chopin with the Danish cellist Henrik Brendstrup.
Her chamber music experience with groups such as Capricorn, the Nash, Endymion and Composers' Ensembles includes standard and contemporary repertoire and she has worked closely with composers such as Boulez, Berio, Michael Nyman, Steve Reich and John Adams. Recent concerts and broadcasts have included performances at the Brighton, Almeida, Dartington, Cheltenham and Verbier festivals, appearances with the London Sinfonietta, BBC Symphony Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra, and two world tours with the London Symphony Orchestra with whom she was the organ soloist in Saint-Sans' Organ Symphony and Janacek's Glagolitic Mass.
