Grant Tim - Viola

Biography of Grant Tim:

Tim Grant is a graduate of London University (B.Mus.) and of the Royal Academy of Music (LRAM). He started his professional life as a founder member of the Locrian String Quartet which was Resident Quartet at the University of Hertfordshire between 1979 and 1985. The Locrain Quartet was awarded the Mozart Prize at the Evian International String Quartet Competition and embarked on a concert career in this country and abroad. In 1986 Timothy was appointed Principal Viola of the BBC Radio Orchestra and spent three years immersed in the light music repertoire, working with artists of the calibre of Michel LeGrand, Georgie Fame and Eartha Kitt. In 1990 he was invited to join the renowned Academy of St. Martin-in-the -Fields where he is now a front-desk player. He has also appeared with the Academy Chamber Ensembl;e, performing Mendelssohn's Octet in Brisbane. Timothy is in demand as Principal Viola with London's leading chamber orchestras including the New London Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. John's and the Britten Sinfonia. At other times he undertakes commercial sessions recording and has worked on film soundtracks including The Madness of King George, Antz, Shakespeare in Loveand The English Patient, and his TV work includes Inspector Morse, Poirot, and theme tunes for The Moral Maze and This is your life. He was a member of the Orchestra in Cameron Mackintosh's recent production of Oliver! Which ran for a record three-and-a-quarter years at the London Palladium. Amongst his solo appearances have been performances of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante with John Georgiandis
