Biography of Kay Serena:
Serena Kay's South Bank appearances include two concerts in the Purcell Room for the Company of Singers and Players, entitled The Age of Bel Canto and Fantaisies de L'Orient, and three performances in the Queen Elizabeth Hall - as soloist in the World premiere of Havergal Brian's opera The Cenci and two British Youth Opera productions. She won the Vocal Department Award and a Distinction for her post-graduate year at Trinity College, where she studied with John Wakefield. She is currently studying with Jessica Cash at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Serena has played the title roles of Carmen and Iolanthe: Suzuki (Madame Butterfly), Siebel (Gounod's Faust) and has been the mezzo soloist in many oratorios, including Messiah, Samson, Beethoven's Mass in C, St John Passion, the London premiere of Tucapsky's Stabat Mater in St James's Piccadilly, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater and Rossini's Messe Solennelle. Recordings include the soundtracks for the BBC TV series Earth Story and the feature film Une Journee Tranquille.
