Biography of Olsen Eric:
Eric Olsen, Pianist, Improviser and Composer Eric Olsen’s distinguished career is due to his exceptional abilities as both a classical and jazz pianist. The New Mexican newspaper stated emphatically that "Eric Olsen is a singer’s dream of a piano accompanist". Other reviewers have called his pianism "superb" (Topeka Captial-Journal), "sensitive" (wetpaint.com), and "subtle and alert" (NJStar-Ledger). Mr. Olsen accompanied Kevin Maynor on his Grammy-nominated CD. He has played for the internationally-renowned vocal studios of Betty Allen, Klara Barlow, Walter Cassel, Margaret Harshaw, James King, Martha Lipton, Giorgio Tozzi, and Virginia Zeani. Equally adept in the jazz realm, Mr. Olsen has performed with guitarists Bucky Pizzarelli and Ed Cherry, bassist Earl May, cellist David N. Baker and trumpeter Dominic Spera. Mr. Olsen’s other recordings include Debussy’s Preludes Book I and the jazz CD Urban Survival with tenor saxophonist George Garzone and Sebastian Moon with guitarist Mel Nusbaum. He performs regularly at prestigious jazz festivals and in Manhattan clubs such as Birdland and the Knitting Factory. Eric Olsen accompanied the 1999 New York Vocal Artists Finalist Competition at Carnegie Hall. He has been a featured soloist with several regional orchestras in the New York metropolitan area. Currently, Mr. Olsen is planning a solo piano recording for Fleur de Son Classics, as well as a second CD with his jazz group, Urban Survival.
