Biography of Pfister Leila:

Leila Pfister was born in Basle, Switzerland. Basic studies in drama at Theater Hochschule Zürich, voice studies at Zurich University of the Arts with Prof. Kathrin Graf and at the Hochschule der Künste Berne with Prof. Elisabeth Glauser, where she graduated with the soloist’s diploma summa cum laude. She accomplished her studies in Prof. Harmut Höll‘s Lied master class and attended additional master classes with Pierre Boulez, Christoph Prégardien, Irwin Gage, Brigitte Fassbaender etc. Pfister has performed both in Switzerland and abroad (including Germany, Spain, Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia): numerous recitals at venues such as the Zurich Tonhalle, Liederhalle Stuttgart, Berlin Philharmonie or the Menuhin Festival Gstaad. In 2009 she had her debut at the Lucerne Festival, accompanied by Hartmut Höll. For the 2010 and 2011 seasons she is engaged at the Theatre in Aachen (Germany). She sang under conductors such as Fabrice Bollon, Andrey Boreyko, Douglas Bostock, Laurent Gendre, Enoch zu Guttenberg, and Alexander Liebreich; accompanied by the Berne Symphony, Capriccio Basel, Klangverwaltung (D), Sofia Philharmonic, and the Munich chamber orchestra. She had parts in oratorios and opera productions, and has been especially committed to contemporary works, within renowned ensembles such as ‚Opera Nova‘, ‚Antipodes‘ or ‚Lucerne Chamber Soloists‘, on international festivals such as 2D2N Odessa, Melos-Étos Bratislava, World New Music Days Lucerne, and YOUrope together in the Essen Philharmonie. She made CD and radio recordings (Radio DRS II, France Musique, Deutschlandfunk) and sang for several film sound tracks and radio plays. Moreover, she lent her voice to movie synchronisation. Pfister‘s repertoire covers a wide range of genres and epochs, from the Renaissance through Bach, Mozart, Rossini to Verdi and the Romantic era, especially French and German song repertoire and her favourite period in late Romantic and early atonal music, as well as contemporary music, including many world premieres. The mezzo soprano won several scholarship competitions (Swiss Musicians‘ Association, Kiefer Hablitzel- and Hedwig Collard-Scherrer-Foundation, Migros-Genossenschafts Scholarship, Tschumi Award for the best Diploma 2006), was semi-finalist at the International ARD Competition in Munich 2006 and garnered awards at the ‚Concours International Nadia et Lili Boulanger‘ in Paris 2007, the international ‚Concours Ernst Haefliger‘ in Gstaad 2008, and the international Opera Competition DEBUT 2008 in Weikersheim (Germany).
Leila Pfister, geboren in Basel, studierte an der Theater Hochschule Zürich und den Musikhochschulen Zürich und Bern bei Prof. Kathrin Graf und Prof. Elisabeth Glauser; Solistendiplom mit Auszeichnung. Ergänzende Studien in der Meisterklasse für Liedduo von Prof. Hartmut Höll und in Meisterkursen u.a. bei Pierre Boulez, Irwin Gage und KS Brigitte Fassbaender. Pfisters Bühnentätigkeit umfasst Konzerte, Liederabende oder Opernpartien in der Schweiz, Deutschland, Spanien, Polen, Ungarn, Slowakei u.a.; in der Tonhalle Zürich, Liederhalle Stuttgart, am Menuhin Festival Gstaad oder in der Berliner Philharmonie. 2009 debütierte sie, begleitet von Hartmut Höll, mit einem Rezital am Lucerne Festival. Für die Spielzeiten 2010 und 2011 wurde die Sängerin ans Theater Aachen engagiert. Die intensive Auseinandersetzung mit zeitgenössischer Musik führte sie an internationale Festivals wie 2D2N Odessa, MelosÉtos Bratislava, World New Music Days Luzern oder YOUrope together in der Philharmonie Essen. Die Mezzosopranistin ersang sich viele Stipendien und Preise in der Schweiz, war Halbfinalistin am internationalen ARD Musikwettbewerb in München 2006 und Preisträgerin des Concours international Nadia et Lili Boulanger Paris 2007, des Internationalen Concours Ernst Haefliger 2008 sowie des Internationalen Opern-Gesangswettbewerbs DEBUT 2008 in Weikersheim (D).
